PROGRAMS

The purpose of the Kids In Kayaks program is to get our youth familiar with the local ecology through an outdoor experience. Students are able to learn about our diverse ecosystem, the significance of this ecosystem in sustaining much of the marine life (plants and animals) found in marshes, tidal creeks, and the open ocean, and while teaching about the important role water quality plays in the ecological, cultural, and economic welfare of Beaufort County. This experience is a great opportunity for teachers to apply classroom knowledge in a real world situation.

Friends of the Rivers will continue to work with local kayaking outfitters so that we can expand this effort to other schools that are interested in having their students experience an interactive approach to learning about human influence on our natural environment.  Having kids exploring our local waterways is the best way to protect the future of our pristine environment!
